For those of you wanting an alternate to the Baja Scene for a cycle route, I suggest entering Mexico at Antelope Wells , NM. The crossing is super easy with almost no traffic on the 40mi of road leading up to it as well as the 7mi of Dirt after it. The Mexican emigration is very laid back and fun, I had no hassles. Once you have ridden the dirt on the Mexican side if you make a right on the Highway in about 300yards is a restaurant. The first town you come to is Janos a truck stop at a 2 way major highway crossing, kind of dodgy but has hotels and food. When you get to Nuevo Casa Grande  look for the Bomberos (firemen) they have a spare room and welcome cycle tourist with open arms. The ruins close by are also worth the short ride. If you make it to Chihuahua, look up Sergio on Warmshowers Great host and friend.

I did this route in 2010, and a few have done it after with similar results....good road bad trucks and friendly people
